A Fresh Start: Healing Horse Sanctuary Opens New Gift Shop
Set to open next week, the new shop aims to raise much-needed funds for the sanctuary’s ongoing efforts in Burcot. Founder Susie Gessey and her dedicated team shared their excitement about reconnecting with the Bromsgrove community:
"We are thrilled to be back in Bromsgrove town centre, reconnecting with the wonderful people we met last year, as well as welcoming new faces," said Gessey. "The other shopkeepers in Chapel Street have been incredibly kind, making this a truly special new beginning for us."
After receiving the keys just over a month ago, the team has been busy not only caring for the sanctuary’s animals but also preparing the shop, which will sell a variety of items, including gifts, greeting cards, vases, ornaments, and more. The shop will also feature sanctuary merchandise, such as horse mugs, keyrings, and sponsor certificates.
A Sanctuary with a Heart for Healing
The Healing Horse Sanctuary, which has been operating since 2008, has rescued numerous horses and ponies over the years, working with holistic practitioners and a trusted vet to help them recover and thrive. These animals now play a central role in therapy sessions, providing emotional healing and joy to children and adults alike.
In addition to selling gifts and merchandise, the new shop will also feature upcycled furniture, antiques, and vintage pieces. The sanctuary offers various community events, including open days, meditation evenings, and social gatherings. The team is committed to supporting a range of animals, having also rescued ex-battery hens and feral cats, who live harmoniously with the horses.
"We do not receive any funding from external sources; we are entirely self-funded," Gessey explained. "Our shop isn’t a typical charity shop with second-hand clothes, but rather a beautiful gift shop that directly supports our work with horses and ponies."
The sanctuary’s new shop will also serve as a community hub, offering a space where visitors can learn about sponsoring a horse, booking therapy sessions, or simply enjoying a conversation with the friendly team. The sanctuary is focused on spreading kindness, creating connections, and offering a warm space for people to gather.
The Gifts of Love shop will open its doors on Friday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. After the grand opening, the shop will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except Sundays and Wednesdays.
