Police departments across southern Maine are preparing to host a variety of fun, family-focused events on Tuesday as part of National Night Out—a nationwide initiative aimed at building stronger relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
This year, several towns are going all out to bring residents together through games, music, food, and exciting demonstrations. The annual event is designed to foster positive interactions between officers and locals in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
One of the newest participants is Kennebunkport, which will be hosting its very first National Night Out from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 20 Recreation Way. The event promises high-energy fun, including a 70-foot inflatable obstacle course, a Nerf war zone, a dunk tank, and live music provided by a DJ. To make the event even more accessible, Ride ME will be offering free transportation from 30 North Street. A highlight of the evening will be the Life Flight helicopter landing at 6 p.m., giving residents a rare up-close look at a medical emergency aircraft.
In Saco, festivities will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Thornton Academy quad. The lineup features a dunk tank, face painting for kids, and community raffles. Saco’s event will also include a Life Flight landing, offering a thrilling visual experience and a chance to learn about emergency response operations.
Westbrook’s celebration is also happening Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., located in the parking lot of St. Anthony’s Church. Community members can enjoy free food, interactive games, and live music, all while mingling with Westbrook police officers in a friendly, casual environment.
Meanwhile, Falmouth will kick off its event at 5:30 p.m. at the Legion complex ball fields. One of the key attractions there will be a light-hearted competition between Falmouth Fire-EMS and the Falmouth Police Department, highlighting unity and camaraderie between emergency services.
National Night Out is a reminder that public safety thrives on trust, communication, and mutual respect. These community events offer a fun, accessible way for residents to meet the people behind the badge, ask questions, and connect over shared experiences.
