Rock Legend Ozzy Osbourne’s Cause of Death Officially Released

The world of rock music mourns the loss of Ozzy Osbourne, who died at the age of 76 on Tuesday, July 22. Known for his groundbreaking role as the frontman of Black Sabbath and his eccentric personality in reality television, Osbourne's death has now been clarified in official records.

According to reports from The New York Times and The Sun, Osbourne's death certificate lists the cause of death as "out of hospital cardiac arrest" and "acute myocardial infarction." Additional contributing factors include coronary artery disease and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction. The certificate was submitted by his daughter Aimee Osbourne in London.

Surrounded by Family in His Final Moments

In a heartfelt statement to PEOPLE, the Osbourne family expressed their grief:

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Following the tragic event, Thames Valley Air Ambulance confirmed that a helicopter was dispatched to an incident near Chalfont St Giles, where it provided advanced care for over two hours. Reports indicate that the emergency was at the Osbourne family home.

A Final Farewell in Birmingham

On July 30, just over a week after his passing, Osbourne's family — including his wife Sharon, and children Louis, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack — held an emotional funeral procession in Birmingham, England, his hometown.

Ironically, only weeks earlier on July 5, Osbourne gave what would be his final live performance at a Black Sabbath reunion concert — his first appearance with the band in 20 years. Despite his health challenges, the rock legend performed seated on a custom throne adorned with skulls and bat motifs.

Years of Health Struggles

Osbourne's health had been a concern for several years. In 2020, he publicly announced that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease since being diagnosed in 2003. Although he initially downplayed the diagnosis, saying, “It’s not a death sentence,” the disease ultimately restricted his mobility.

In 2019, Osbourne also underwent neck surgery after a serious fall at his Los Angeles home. Despite this, he stunned fans with a performance at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 in front of 30,000 spectators.

However, by 2023, his declining condition forced him to cancel multiple tours and appearances. In a candid Instagram post, he revealed that although his singing voice remained intact, his body hadn’t recovered from multiple surgeries and experimental treatments, including stem cell therapy and HAL (Hybrid Assistive Limb) Therapy.

Canceled Performances and Hall of Fame Absence

Osbourne also canceled a highly anticipated performance at the Power Trip Festival in October 2023 and skipped his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction performance the same year. Although he remained optimistic about returning to the stage in 2024, that dream would never materialize.

A Reflective Farewell to an Iconic Journey

In a 2007 interview with The Guardian, Osbourne reflected on his extraordinary life:

“This has all been such an amazing journey for me. I can vividly remember sitting on the step of my house in Aston, just tripping about what it would be like to be a Beatle… I’ve been in the music industry for 30, 40 years, and it’s just been incredible really.”

With a career that influenced generations and a persona that transcended music, Ozzy Osbourne leaves behind a legacy of rebellion, resilience, and raw rock energy.
