After a campaign marked by rancour and fear, Americans on Tuesday decide between President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden. A record-breaking number of early votes more than 100 million have already been cast in the US presidential election that has the nation on edge and is being closely watched in capitals around the world.

Results are pouring in from across the US and all focus is on the key battleground states that will decide the election. Mr Trump has been projected to win Florida, Ohio, Texas and Iowa and there are tight races under way in Arizona, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia. So far, Mr Biden has 227 electoral college votes and Mr Trump has 213. To win the presidency 270 votes are needed. But it may be a day or more until we know the final outcome, as full results for eight states are yet to be projected.
